Turkey Conference Set Feb. 15
A one-day conference for
turkey industrymen from the
Middle Atlantic states will be
held in the Holiday Inn, 516
Baltimore Street, Gettysburg, on
Tuesday, February 15, d was
jointly announced this week by
the Northeastern Poultry
Producers Council and the
Pennsylvania Poultry
Federation, co-sponsors of the
event
Dr John V Shutze, widely
known and dynamic professor of
Poultry Science Extension at the
University of Georgia, will lead
off the program at 10 a.m with a
discussion of “High Fat Rations

The U.S. Department of
Agriculture has approved the
addition of an advertising and
promotion plan to the Middle
Atlantic Federal milk marketing
order subject to approval of the
required two-thirds majority of
dairy farmers affected.
USDA’s Consumer and
Marketing Service said a mail
referendum will be held to
determine producer approval,
to Improve Performance and
Carcass Quality” Dr Shutzewill
also give a progress report or

program will be Dr King S
Daniels, staff assistant to the
northeastern regional director of
USDA’s Meat & Poultry In
spection Program Dr. Daniels
will discuss “Federal Standards
lor the Small Existing Processing
Plant”, including some of the
problems encountered in helping
turkey producer-processors
comply with the Poultry
Products Inspection Act.

Moyer of the Virginia
Polytechnic Institute & State
University, discussing how
“Management and Poor Han

Egg dipping, a subject of
universal concern to turkeymen
today, will be given a thorough
airing by Dr Robert F. Gentry,
respected veterinarian from the
Pennsylvania State University.'
Dr Gentry will cover the theory,
equipment, procedures and
results to date of dipping for the
control of respiratory disease and
leg weakness.
Anchor man of this power
packed program will be Dr.
Howard Kahan, poultry
pathologist at the Delaware
Valley College’s poultry
diagnostic laboratory at
Doylestown, Pa , who will discuss
another current curse of the
industry, “Cholera - Its Diagnosis
& Control”
The Conference is scheduled to
adjourn by 4 p.m. Conference fee,
including luncheon, tax and tips,
is $l2 per person. Advance

Agreement Act,
The program would be funded
by an assessment of five cents a
hundredweight on all milk that
producers deliver to the market
each month, before returns are
paid out to producers through the
marketwide pool. Quarterly
refunds would be made to any
producers not wishing to par
ticipate in the program.
The amendment proposals
were made at a public hearing at
Baltimore, Md , in September,
requested by dairy cooperatives
