Farmers who set aside the minimum acreage, equal to 25 per cent of the farm feed grain base, may qualify for 1972 payments. Average payments -in Pennsylvania for minimum set-aside will be about $56 per acre for corn, $32 for barley and $35 for sorghum. Pennsylvania farmers have two additional options for feed grain. Option 2 permits producers to set-aside additional acres equal to 10 per cent of corn and sorghum crop bases. Barley additional set-aside equal to 20 per cent of the-barley base is permitted. Average payments for additional set-aside acreage in Pennsylvania are corn $36.40, barley $2l, and sorghum $23. Option 3 permits feed grain producers to offer a second ad ditional 10 per cent of the corn and sorghum base at rates equal to option 2. Option 3 may or may not be accepted by the Secretary of Agriculture. Acceptance will be determined about mid-March. To earn payments, a producer must set aside acreage equal to 83 per cent of the farm allotment. Program participation does not limit wheat acreage. Feed grain and wheat producers need to grow either feed grains, wheat or soybeans to maintain full base and allotment credit for future years. These crops may be substituted m 1972. Any combination of wheat, feed gram and soybean acreage equal to 50 per cent of the feed grain base, plus the farm wheat allotment, will earn full crop history credit in 1972.
