She was in the 4-H Sewing Club at Martin Mylin Junior High School, sponsored by the Willow Street Women’s Club, the past two summers. She is a cheer leader for the Willow Street football team. They play teams Ready tor the Farm Show from other towns in the county for two months in the fall. Their son Herbi is eight years and in third grade at Willow Street Elementary School. He takes lessons on a flutophone at school. He was on the Willow Street Leopards baseball team in the Penn-Manor League. He is learning to braid rugs and do cross stitch embroidery. Mrs. Miller—following in the footsteps of her mother who hauls Amish neighbors for a living—is a school bus driver in West Lampeter Township. She says, “love to drive. I like to drive anything. She hauls 210 children a day. She drives 50 miles a day regularly. She used to drive 100 miles a day when her run in cluded the vo-tech school. Her regular route is from Linden to Lampeter-Strasburg Senior and Junior High Schools, Lampeter Elementary School and to Willow Street Elementary School. She spent three days this year explaining do’s and don’ts to first graders and their teachers at Lampeter, Strasburg and Willow Street Elementary School. Mr. Miller has been a postman in Lancaster for almost 12 years. He is a member of and a fire policeman for the Willow Street Fire Company. He was managing the Junior Midget Midgets (8 to 10 year olds) baseball teams in Willow Street last year There are six teams in Willow Street Two teams of eight years olds are in the league of which he was assistant manager, but there were four more teams which could not be m the league, in order for those boys to play, he worked with them Millers belong to New Providence Church of God Mrs Miller was a Sunday School teacher eight years and home department superintendent four or five years She is assistant pianist in the primary depart ment She bowls in their church league at Garden Spot Bowl, Strasburg Her average is 145, although it was higher before her recent foot operation She took part in the women’s city-county tournament last March Mr Miller used to teach a Sunday School class and was on the church softball team He is a substitute bowler on their team and bowled in the city-county tournament last year Dale and Janet are members of Willow Street PTA and attend the meetings at the school They hold five meetings a year Janet is a member of Willow Street Fire Company Auxiliary and bakes for their bake sales and festivals She has been helping with chicken corn soup take-outs at their festivals Mrs Miller, although living in a small town for over six years, says she loves the country and had a garden until her father-in law supplied them with plenty of vegetables Besides doing a lot of canning, preserving and freezing, she likes to cook She made 50 dozen Christmas cookies in December One of her hobbies is collecting cookbooks. She has over 100 and is still collecting She does some sewing when she can find time She made two skirts and another skirt and poncho to match for Sheri last year Mrs Miller took an art course in the Lampeter-Strasburg adult education class a couple years ago and did one charcoal and four oil paintings She loves to make fresh floral arrangements She does this mainly in the summer when fresh flowers are in abundance, but she combines flowers, pumpkins and candles for fall arrangements and makes Christmas wreaths Another hobby of Mrs Miller’s is collecting cheap antiques She takes pride in restoring them Mrs Miller shares these recipes: BAKED DRIED CORN Grind in blender or food chopper 1 cup Cope’s dried corn Add. 2V* cups cold milk 2-3 cup or a small can evaporated milk 1 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons sugar 2 well beaten eggs Mix ingredients thoroughly and pour into buttered baking dish (Continued on Page 44) 43
