Shelly Mix USDA Recommends Turkey growers should limit any increase in production in 1972 to 1.5 per cent over 1971 levels, the U.S. Department of Agriculture recommends in its “1972 Turkey Marketing Guide.” This recommendation should be accomplished, USDA said, by reducting production in the first half of 1972 to a level of 10 per cent below that prevailing in the same period in 1971 and in creasing production by 4 per cent in the second half of the year. This change in the production pattern would avoid a price depressing build-up of turkeys in cold storage at the beginning of the main marketing season. f THE FARMER’S 8 1 NATIONAL BANK ||£ I FOR THE BEST CHRISTMAS EVER JOIN OOR 49’ERS CLOB TODAY. n ||£ I n in I .00 per week $1 $ 2,00 per week --- $ 3.00 per week $ 5.00 per week n? i I If MEMBER FEDERAL DEPOSIT INSURANCE CORPORATION H A FULL SERVICE BANK % 96.4 30.4 91.4 55.4 85.1 32.4 87.4 30.2 87.6 53.4 94.4 34.0 84.5 59.3 88.5 39.3 85.2 41.3 87.5 39.3 81.1 36.0 87.9 26.9 96.0 26.8 96.1 42.0 To meet the recommended level of production, the guide recommends that one per cent fewer turkey breeder hens be kept for producing hatching eggs than in 1971. The guides, published by USDA’s Consumer and Marketing Service, aim to aid both turkey industry and con sumers by recommedniing levels of production, which, considering demand, are likely to result in stable and reasonable prices.
