19 Lancaster County FFA Youths to Receive Keystone Degree

Marlin Becker
Manheim Chapter
Marlin Becker, Manheim RD2,
is a son of Mr. and Mrs S.
Franklin Becker A member of
the White Oak Church of the
Brethren youth group, he was
elected as the FFA delegate to
the Manheim Farm Show
Marlin served the Manheim
FFA Chapter as chaplain during
1970-71, and is now serving as
treasurer
His farming program consists
of 29 fattening hogs, six beef
fattening steers and three diary
heifers During the summer
between his junior and senior
year he worked for E D Shenk &
Sons, Elizabethtown RD3, and for
Melvin Lehman, Lawn, as part of
his farm work experience
Marlin had two heifers ac
cepted to show at the 1972 Farm
Show m Harrisburg
Having received the award for
the reserve grand champion
market hog at the Manheim
Farm Show, he was also senior
showman at the Lancaster
County Hog Show He received
the livestock production foun
dation award of the Manheim
Chapter Marlin was top
salesman in the citrus fruit sale
recently completed by the
Manheim Chapter
Adolph J Bensinger, son of Mr
and Mrs Kenneth Bensinger,
Quarry ville RD2, is a 17 year old
senior at Solanco High School.
Adolph is in the occupational
work experience program on the
Walter Ponnal farm near
Quarryville where he has been
working for the past three years.
He is currently vice president of
the Solanco FFA Chapter and has
participated in many FFA
contests both on the County and
State level.
After graduation, he plans to
join the Peace Corps and work in
the agricultural field.
Adolph J. Bensinger
Solanco Chapter
Roger D Leaman, son of Mr
and Mrs Charles H. Leaman,
Ronks RD, is a member of the
Peaque Valley FFA Chapter. He
has a farrow-to-fimsh swine
operation with 30 sows and about
250 fattening hogs per year.
Roger is presently serving the
Peaque Chapter as FFA
president, and is also County
FFA chaplain. He served the
local Chapter as vice president
last year He attended the
National FFA Convention in
Kansas City as a freshman.
He received the Star
Greenhand award, Star Chapter
Farmer award, and the Star Red
Rose Farmer degree. He also
received the James Z. Martin
Swine Achievement award.
In county and state contests, he
received a gold medal for his
Roger D. Leaman
Pequea Chapter
FFA Record Books in both his
sophmore and junior years. He
placed first in livestock judging
for the county in 1970 and
received a bronze medal for
livestock judging at Penn State in
1971.
At the 1971 Lancaster County
Hog Show he had the grand
champion pen of 10 and also had
four hogs which placed second in
individual classes.
Roger is a junior member of
the Lancaster County Swine
Producers Association
Dale Weiler, 17, is the son of
Mr and Mrs Mervin Weiler,
Elverson RD2 Dale works as a
DHIA milk testers assistant
Presently serving as secretary
of the Grassland FFA Chapter,
- Dale previously served the
Chapter as vice president and
second vice president, and was a
delegate to the National FFA

the participation in state and
national activities committee,
chairman of the banquet ticket
committee, and member of the
following committees: public
relations, banquet menu, conduct
of meeting, and scholarship
committee.
On the State level, Dale won the
small gas engine contest. In area
and county contests, he won the
farm mechanics contest and the
meat judging contest
In Chapter contests, Dale was
successful in winning the checker
tournament He was also a
winner m the land judging con
test

speaking contest, record book
contest, milk products contest,
and sheep judging contests.
A member of the National
Honor Society at Garden Spot
High School, he is also on the JV
wrestling team.
Active in various activities at
his local church, he serves as a
teacher in the Sunday School
program, is secretary, and
assistant chorister.
Amos Sauder
Manheim Chapter
Amos N Sauder, a son of Mr.
and Mrs. Amos H. Sauder,
Manheim RDI, is serving his
second year as secretary of the
Manheim FFA, Chapter.
His farming program for 1971-
72 consists of three steers, one
cow, one heifer, one acre of field
corn, 22 veal calves, and is
working away from home as a
farm work experience project
