Everyone’s making last minute preparations for this Show of Shows. For most farmers and farm youth, however, who have serious interests in taking some of the top awards, getting ready for the Farm Show started many months ago—possibly right after last year’s show. All steers are to arrive at the Farm Show Building on Satur day, January 8 by 3 p m (Request them to be there by this time in order to give them time to quiet down before feeding time ) They must be in their stalls by 6 p.m in order to be eligible for the show and sale Please give your trucker time to meet this regulation Health regulations require that your steer be negative to a tuberculosis test within 90 days of the opening of the show Also, that he be injected against shipping fever (hemorrhagic septicemia) with two inoculations of bactenn or vaccine at least two weeks prior to the show, or one dose of serum within three days of his arrival at the Farm Show Please contact your local veterinarian to get this done Also, be sure and send your T B Test sheet and the shipping fever certificate along with your steer on Saturday, January 8 Each member is to furnish his own feed and water tub or bucket, we suggest the 1 galvanized tub that can be used for both feed and water, put your name on it We are requesting that each steer be tied with a neck rope or strap in addition to his halter This will be needed to tie him out at night and to tie him betwen two rings in the Show Building (Old cow chains are not suitable ) Also, we are asking that each member put a strip of masking tape on the halter or neck strap with your name on it This will help with the correct iden tification The Farm Show commission will furnish hay, straw, and gram for inside the Farm Show Building However, we will need two bales of straw per steer, to be used for the outside tie-out pens Please send this along with your steer For the above materials and for the sale expenses, the Farm Show Commission will deduct three per cent from your sale check. After the sale on Friday, January 14, all steers are to be left with a suitable halter We have secured Bernie Buchen, Ed Donough, Roland Longenecker, and Clark Stauffer as caretakers for the week Mrs Clyde Brubaker and Mrs. Gerald Hess will be chaperones for the girls We hope to arrange for someone to be supervisor for our group in the boys’ dormitory. Steer judging will start at 10 a.m., Thursday, January 13, with the Shorthorns, followed by the Herefords, Charolais, and Angus in that order Grand Champion to be selected at 2:45 p m., followed by the County Trio classes.
