live days on Monday, January 10

compete with various exhibits.

Dr. Farber Is
Named Acting USDA
Dr Sheldon S Farber has been
named the U S Department of
Agriculture’s acting area
supervisor for meat and poultry
inspection in Pennsylvania
According to the USDA’s
Consumer and Marketing Ser
vice which is responsible for the
lederal inspection program, the
office will be located in
Harrisburg and will supervise
lederal inspection in packing and
processing plants, as well as
maintain surveillance of state
inspection programs that are
certified by USDA as equal to
federal
Dr Farber’s appointment is
part of a USDA reorganization of
its meat and poultry inspection
program, in which eight regional
offices were consolidated into
five and 36 area offices were
established Most of the latter
offices will be located in State
capitals and will report to one of
the five regional offices
The Pennsylvania office will
come under the Northeast
Regional Office in Philadelphia.
Its acting director will be Dr
Chester F. Diehl
The purpose of the
reorganization is to enable USDA
to have an even closer
relationship with state officials
who administer inspection
programs and will offer meat and
poultry industrymen a closer
point of contact for fulfilling their
role in the inspection process
Prior to assuming this pbst. Dr
Farber, a native of Philadelphia,
was deputy regional director for
processing in the Northeast
Regional Office in Philadelphia
He joined USDA 25 years ago,
having graduated from the
University of Pennsylvania with
a Doctorate in Veterinary
Medicine
