Project records show that the FFA youths kept the animals on feed for periods ranging from 249 to 361 days, most of them from 340 to 355 days. Initial weight of the animals was 340 to 550, with most of them beginning between 400 and 500 The selling weight ranged from 810 to 1,270, mostly between 900 and 1,100. The weight gain ranged from 470 to 835, with most ranging from 470 to 615. Gain per day also varied considerably, with a low of 1 36 pounds per day and a high of 2 36 pounds per day. Shenenberger’s champion Charolais was on feed 325 days, starting at 540 pounds, gaining 530 pounds at the rate of 1.63 pounds per day to a sale weight of 1,070.
