    Kreiders ’ Mums

pigs they will finish. They did
keep up to 100 sows but are
cutting down since Larry won’t
be there to help. They sold a lot of
pigs for breeding stock. They buy
most of the hog and chicken feed.
They have been finishing about
250 head of steers a year, but are
cutting down to 100 head. They
have mostly Hereford and Angus,
but have tried a few Charolais.
They buy the steers at 500 to 700
pounds and keep them up to a
year. Mr. Kreider does most of
the work with the steers.
Mr. Kreider puts most of his
com in the silo. They did raise as
much as 16 acres of tobacco, but
cut down to 3 or 4 acres. They did
not raise any this year because
they won’t have as much help.
Harold is a member of the
Pennsylvania Farmers
Association and served one time
as director. He is also a member
of the Lancaster County Poultry
Association.
Kreiders are members of White
Oak Church of the Brethren,
Manheim. Five churches
alternate services. Sunday
School is held at Manheim and
Longeneckers. Larry and Linda
attend Sunday School at
Manheim. There is also Graybills

Harold was an usher nine year at
Graybills and was on the
Missionary Board. Mrs. Kreider
is a member of the sewing circle.
She also does her own sewing.
Mrs. Kreider likes to cook and
entertains a lot. She has a lot of
Sunday dinner guests. She also
does a lot of canning and
freezing.
Here is the way Mrs. Kreider
does a
ROAST DUCK
Cook giblets and neck with a
pinch of saffron. Cut up giblets.
Filling:
1 loaf bread, toasted and broken
2 eggs
Giblet broth and cut-up giblets
y k medium onion
Stuff the duck, rub salt on it.
Place in roaster with. cup
water. Roast at 400 degrees for 20
minutes, turn oven to 200 degrees
for 2>/ 2 hours. Keep lid.on whole
time.

Mrs. Kreider makes this large
quantity pie crust recipe which
she likes for fruit pies and
custards;
- PIE CRUST
(Weigh ingredients)
3 lb. flour
2 lb. shortening or lard
1 lb. water

Mr. and Mrs. Kreider nip the buds from
their Full Moon white mum so the blooms
1 tablespoon salt
Put all ingredients in bowl or
pan at one time and mix. Roll
thin. Makes about 12 crusts. Bake
fruit pie at 375 degrees for 10
minutes. Turn to 200 degrees and
bake Vz hour.

1% cups pumpkin
% cup sugar
2 beaten eggs
Vz teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Vz teaspoon ginger

Vi teaspoon cloves
1 2-3 cups milk
Mix all together and pour into
unbaked pie crust. If using fresh
sieved pumpkin, be sure it is well
drained. Bake at 350 degrees for
45 minutes. Makes one pie.

STRAWBERRY DELIGHT
16 oz. bag of miniature mar
shmallows
Lpt. crushed strawberries, fresh
or frozen
Mix above together, let set four
hours in refrigerator.
% pt. whipping cream, whipped.
Mix with above mixture
Freeze or chill.
