Adams County to
> The U.S. Department of
Agriculture recently designated
Adams County, Pa., to have a
Food Stamp Program.
Designation of Adams County
was requested by the Com
monwealth of Pennsylvania.
Financial support will be
provided by the Emergency
Health and Medical Services of
the Office of Economic Op
portunity.
Adams is the last of Penn
sylvania’s 67 counties to be
designated.
USDA’s Food and Nutrition
Service reported that 3,102
counties and independent cities
across the country have a food
assistance program-either the
food stamp program or the food
distribution program-and two
counties (including Adams) are'
in the “planning stage.”
From a low point of nine no
program counties, the number
has now increased to 25, due to
withdrawals in some States.
These include 12 counties that
were formerly distributing
donated foods-nine in Missouri
and two in Texas and one in
Colorado-and four nonoperating
counties in Idaho and one in
Montana that relinquished their
food stamp designations.
