Compared last weeks close
closing prices on slaughter steers
and heifers were fully steady,
instances strong to 25c higher
on high-choice and prime. Cows
closed strong to 50c-higher, bulls
weak to 50c lower Feeder Cattle
and calves sold readily at fully
steady prices.
Three day receipts for holiday
period 15,300 as compared 20,700
previous week and 16,900 year
ago. Slaughter steers approxima
tely 35 percent, heifers 39 per
cent, cows 12 percent, feeders 10
percent. Still a seasonally large
number of 975-1050 lb. steers
and 825-900 lb. heifers. Many of
these of good and low-choice
grade. Fed cattle trade followed
a stable course following the
long non-slaughter weekend.
Most demand centered on choice
and prime 1150-1300 lb. steers
and 925-1000 lb. heifers. There
was a fairly good demand for cat
tle to be slaughtered outside the
immediate Omaha area.
Average cost slaughter steers
first two days 32.44 average
weight 1092 lbs. as compared
33.51-10.88 lbs. previous week
and 29.46 and 1101 lbs. a year
ago.
