As I stumbled through the meadow in the
misty morning, while rounding up the cows
for milking, I walked into some burning
nettle. If you aren’t familiar with this weed,
you can’t appreciate how thoroughly it can
awaken you simply by brushing against your
skin.
The cows are as reluctant to “rise and
shine” as I am They use a wooded area, which
is covered with about a foot of sand, as a
sleeping place. With a little uigmg they start
for the barn all except the soon-to-be
mothers who know they are excused
Then, I see a huge crane winging slowly
overhead making an odd sound and the early
morning trip is worthwhile.
When we visited the Pennsylvania Dutch
Days at Hershey last month, we
•<iw many interesting things and
even got a few ideas as to how
we might finish and decorate
some “old” articles in our home
Howevei, we were struck with
the commercialism of the whole
affair Many of the numerous
articles for sale appeared to have
no direct or indirect connection

Nowadays we hear so much of
recycling or reusing things It
seems to me to be only a new
word for a principle by which
I’ve lived all my life Passing
clothes from one child to an
other is just one example Of
course, the fellow at the end of
the line gets either patches on
patches or hopefully a hew gar
ment
This old saying covers the
subject “Eat it up, wear it out,
make it do or do without ”
“Nothing gives you more
leisure than being right on
lime.”
