tion and Conservation Service
offices in counties throughout
the Nation have been designat
ed as receiving centers for in
quires by rural citizens con
cerning tiie Presidential order
of August 15 on prices, rents,
wages and salaries.
This was-announced recently
in a joint statement by the Of
fice of Emergency Prepared
ness and Secretary of Agricul
ture Clifford M. Hardin.
The ASCS county offices will
act as information centers to
the extent that official replies
are available to questions sub
mitted by the public on the
operation and interpretation of
the Presidential order.
Inquires for which the local
ASCS office has no answers, as
well as all complaints, will be
forwarded to the nearest dis
trict or subdistrict office of the
Internal Revenue Service. In no
case will the local ASCS office
attempt to resolve complaints
or make interpretations of eco
nomic issues, the announcement
said.
Inquiries and complaints sub
mitted through ASCS county of
fices to IRS district or subdis
trict offices may be forwarded
to OEP regional offices or to
the OEP national office for fur
ther consideration, it was in
dicated.
The normal function of the
ASCS county offices is to ad
minister farm programs of the
U.S. Department of Agriculture
on the local level. This primary
function will contmue, USDA
officials stressed.
County ASCS offices are in
the process of receiving official
replies to common questions
bearing on the Presidential
directive, USDA officials said.
