Requests Pennsylvania has requested federal inspection for its intra- small producers into bankruptcy. “We wish to make consumers aware that egg prices are subject to change,” Faulkner said “Gen erally, the egg market rises in September and October under normal conditions. Unless the market remains free to seek its true supply-demand price level, many small producers will be forced out of business and our industry will consist of a few large corporations.” Some retail stores have indi cated to U E.P. they plan to stick to a one-price system dur ing the 90-day period to avoid any consumer reaction. Faulkner stated. This policy may force even higher prices upon con sumers following the period since a voluntary retail price freeze could have the effect of setting a one-price policy to pro ducers “We feel consumers have had excellent bargains in egg prices in 1971,” Faulkner continued, “but they must be aware that low egg prices cannot continue in definitely if egg producers are to survive. If large numbers of production units are sent into bankruptcy by either mandatory or voluntary retail price freezes, future egg prices will skyrocket fiom the lack of supply.” 'UM.
