Old Deeds Presented
Recently,
Thomas Smith, a
Drexel Hill High School student,
presented three 18th century
deeds for plots of land lying in
the village of Heidelberg (now
Schaefferstown). »
Tom is an active member of
Historic Schaefferstown. He pur
chased the deeds at an auction
last summer and had them
framed with glass on both sides.
Two of the deeds still contain
the original red wax seals.
The deeds were presented as a
memorial to the late John
Brendel, one of the founders and
a Director of Historic Schaeffers
town. John Brendel gave Tom
Smith much assistance and en
couragement in bis initial ex
perience with the investigation
of local history. John Brendel and
his wife Winnie have been an
inspiration to many young people
whose interests included local
history and folklore.
Mrs. Brendel accepted the
deeds for the Association. They
