FFA Hog Show for Second Straight Year Mike Grube of Elm 'has won the Lancaster County FFA Mar ket Hog Show and Sale top honors for the second straight >ear His 205 pound crossbred was named grand champion Tuesday and was latei purchased by the Penn Packing Company of Phil adelphia for $1 12 a pound. The Warwick FFA Chapter member’s champion animal last year sold for $ll7 a pound to Penn Pack ing The reserve grand champion was a 220 pound cross shown by John Weaver, 501 N. Academy Drive, Ephrata His animal sold for 51 cents a pound to the E. W Martin Company, Lancaster. Grube is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Harold Grube and Weaver is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Paul Weaver Henry Gruber of A & B Pack ing Company, Allentown, was judge. In the showmanship competi tion Marlin Becker of Manheim Central FFA Chapter was first in senior showmanship and Gerald Musser of the Cloister Chapter of Ephrata was first in junior showmanship. In fitting competition Frank Ruoss of Grassland Chapter, New Holland, was first in senior fitting and Barry Wissler of Cloister was first in junior fit ting. Breed champions sold at the afternoon auction for an average of 23-24 cents a pound with seven packing companies buying. A total of 203 hogs were sold for an average price of $22.93 per hundred pounds Total weight of the sale 'hogs was 43,- 345 pounds with receipts of the sale reaching $9,939.15. Officials of USDA’S Consumer and Marketing Service said they are extending the comment dead line because of requests from in terested persons for additional time to consider, and comment on the proposal. The original dead line was July 26. The proposed regulations, which were published in the May 27 Fedral Register, cover every aspect of the Federal poultry in spection program—including be for-and after-slaughter inspec tion, plant sanitation, label ing, inspection of imported prod ucts, detention and seizure au thorities, Federal-State coopera tion, and many other specific de tails of inspection.
