Penn Manor Cooking The fifth meeting'of the Penn Manor Cooking Club was held at 11 a.m. July 21 at the Penn Manor Middle School. The meeting was called to order by saying the 4-H Pledge. The secretary called the roll. The Junior Girls made spaghetti and sweet-sour green beans. The senior girls made whoopie pies. In new business, the group talked about roundup. The ( junior girls are to bring in six yeast rolls to be judged. The'next meeting will be held Wednesday, July 28 at the Penn Manor Middle School. News Reporter, Bauman Mount Joy Sewing Club The fifth meeting of the Mount Joy second year Sewing Club' was held July 20 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church Beverly Garber, president, called the meeting to order and led the group in the 4-H pledge. Susan Miller, secretary, had roll call and read the minutes of the last meeting. Robin Miller, treasurer, gave a report and col lected dues. The meeting was called to order by Tammy Duke. The Salute to the Flag was led by Gwen Hosier. The 4-H-Pledge was led by Tina Garner. The roll was taken'‘by Gwen Hosier and Jeannie Kabler, Gwen Hosier gave the-secretary’s report. Mrs. Hostetter collected the dues. Denise Esbenshade led the group in singing songs. The club was divided into sew ing groups to work on projects. What does the word ‘denier’ mean on a box of stockings? Denier is the weight and thickness of a strand of nylon yarn. The lower the denier, the thinner the yarn and thus the sheerer the stocking. Very sheer hose are around seven denier, and heavier stockings will be 40 to 50 denier.
