An uneven marketing pattern
exerted a strong influence on the
live trade and a threatened rail
strike added a further bearish
undertone.. Mild ,early price up
turn more than offset by lower
trend on later sessions and most
buyers quite cautious and selec
tive at close. Consist showed a
notieable increase in 950-1050 lb.
Steers and 775-850 lb. Heifers,
many of these of Good and low-
Cboice grade and generally in
narrow demand. Hot, humid
weather forepart of week made
dressing percentages somewhat
uncertain as a result of rather
liberal waterfills. Slaughter
Steers approximately 45 per
cent, Heifers 37 per cent Cows
8 per cent and Feeders 7 per
cent.

slaughter steers mostly steady;
slaughter heifers 25-75 c lower
with the most decline on
weights under 850 lbs. Cows
steady and bulls fully steady.
Both slaughter steers and
heifers in good demand on Mon
day with some price strength
recorded on steers. However, on
Wednesday with a declining
wholesale dressed beef trade
steers lost the early advance
and heifers scored lower. In
creased marketings of heifers
weighing under 850 lbs. evident
and* under most buyer pressure.
Receipts included 78 percent
slaughter steers and 19 percent
heifers with balance mostly
cows. Overall finish slaughter
steers about like last week with
