News reporter, Debbie Becker Kookie Kooks 4-H Meets The fourth meeting of the Penn Manor Kookie Kooks was held Wednesday, July 14 at the Penn Manor Middle School home economics room The meeting was called to order by saying the 4-H pledge. Under new business, club members filled out enrollment cards. A surprise vocal arrangement by the trio of Lori Glick, Linda Sickman and Debbie White was heard. The meeting was ad journed. The junior girls made French dressing, baked cheese pudding, mixed fruit salad, sliced carrots with onions and made yeast rolls. The senior girls made pizzas. July 17,1971 Foster Joins Pennfield Spencer F. Foster Weaver Presents Safety Awards Victor F. Weaver, Inc., New Holland, recently presented 45 of its truck drivers with safe driving awards totaling $8,350, announced Luke 6. Sauder, Supervisor of Fleet Safety and Driver Training. Lee S. Weaver, Ephrata RDI, who holds the largest safe -driv ing record among Weaver truck drivers, received special recog nition for accumulating 390,000 accident free miles during the past six years. Fourteen other drivers were also commended this year for their continuous safe driving records. They include Richard McCarty, five safe years, Lee Enter Plowing Contest Openings are still available for level land and contour plowing competition in the annual plow ing contest and conservation field day sponsored by the Lan caster County Soil and Water Conservation District. Four applications have been received, 'but there are a total of up to 10 positions open. Ap plication can be made by calling the conservation office at 299- 5361. The contest will be held July 27 at the Roy Brook farm, Ronks RDI. Spencer F. Foster has been appointed Engineering Services Manager, a new company posi tion of Pennfield Corporation. He will be responsible for facilities and industrial engi neering, plant and automotive maintenance and capital equip ment purchasing. Prior to joining Pennfield, he was Manager of Maintenance and Engineering for the Sum ter, S. C„ plant of Campbell Soup Company. A native of Philadelphia, he graduated from Drexel Insti tute of Technology with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. The Foster family will reside in Lancaster. Stoltzfus, four years, Daniei Denlinger, three years, Lloyd Stoner, two years, Lamar Ha becker, two years, James Stol tzfus, two years and one year for each of the following; Barry Dissinger, Joel Histand, Paul Kilmer, Gordon Landis, Martin Reed, Melvin Sauder, Leon Stauffer, and John Landis. These drivers have accumu lated 32 years of accident free driving and 2,006,000 miles in 23 states. The highest safe driving award accumulated was $426 with an average of 189.79 per driver. According to Sauder, the amount of miles compiled by the Weaver transportation divi sion grossed a combined total of 2,268,835 miles for a week ly average of 43,631 miles. Seminar Date Changed A poultry 'business manage ment seminar in Lancaster has been rescheduled from October 14 to October 21. The October 21 seminar will be held at the Farm and Home Cen ter, announced Floyd W. Hicks, Penn State poultry specialist. 15
