USDA Egg Market Continues, Changes Made
Some changes, particularly in
Chicago reports, will be made in
the U.S. Department of Agricul
ture's egg market news reports
but they will not be discontinued.
United Egg Producers, a nation
wide cooperative of egg produc
ers and marketers, had asked
USDA to modify it’s market
news reports, and in March
USDA asked for comments on
UEP’s proposal
As a result of approximately
1,100 comments on the proposal
and a thorough study on the egg
market news reports by USDA’s
Consumer and Marketing Ser
vice, which conducts the market
news program, the following
changes will become effective
July 6. 1971-
In Chicago, the wholesale
daily report will be replaced by
twice-a-week reports on Wednes
day and Friday since the volume
of loose eggs handled in Chicago
is not always sufficient to issue a
valid daily report on all grades
and sizes The price range will be
narrowed bv eliminating the ex
tremes when it is obvious that
such prices are out of line with
the normal market. The weight
ed average price will continue
to be reported but only twice a
week rather than daily.
In New York City, there is
sufficient volume of product
handled daily to warrant continu
ing the daily wholesale price
report The full range will be
narrowed by eliminating the ex
tremes, and the “mostly” report
will be continued
The daily report of cartoned
egg prices will be continued in
all markets However, extremes
in the reported range will be
eliminated
Market condition reports will
be continued
These changes with further
details were scheduled for pub
lication in the Federal Register
