Feeder steers steady to 50c high er; feeder heifers fully steady to strong; cows moderately ac tive, steady to 50c higher, bulls strong. Slaughter steers and heifers scarce. Salable receipts for the holiday shortened period totaled 13,300' head compared to 16,200 a week ago and 22,400 the comparable period a year ago. The majority or fully 86 percent of the receipts were feeder cattle and calves, good and choice 400- 800 pound offerings, predominat ing. Cows comprised near 13 percent of the cattle receipts down sharply from the previous week. More than 60 per cent of three day total arrived on Tuesday and prices were forced downward as buyers had ample selection from which to choose. Mild early decline recovered at mid week, however, when mar keting dwindled to 4,500 head. Slaughter steers made up ap proximately 44 per cent and heifers 35 per cent predominate Good to Average Choice with a noticeable increase in volume of Good and Low-Choice 800 to 850 pounds short fed heifers which met with generally narrow de mand.
