Alfalfa Leafhoppers - Thrive in Hot Weather Alfalfa leafhoppers are now present and will be increasing under high temperature condi tions. Immature cuttings should be protected from leafhopper feeding to assure maximum yields ,and maintain plant vigor, according to Chester County ag agents. Leafhopper injury must be prevented by spraying when the immature growth is four to six inches tall. There is little ad vantage gained in spraying with in the two week period preced ing harvest Leafhoppers on alfalfa will likely toe active from now until late August. The fields which will be mowed in late June and early July will be especially sub ■ jecCto attack by leafhopper on the regrowth cuttings. Spray recommendation is 3 pints of 25% Methoxychlor emulsion per acre. At least 25 gallons of water per acre is needed.
