Fire Ban Is Rescinded
Governor Milton J Shapp an
nounced Monday that due to re
cent rainfalls he has lescinded
the ban on smoking and open
tires in or near woodlands
This ban was imposed April
15 because of the seveie foiest
fire danger then existing
The Governor stated that on
the basis of leports leceived by
the Department of Envnonmen
tal Resources from the District
Foresters thioughout the state,
the ban was successful in re
ducing new forest fires signifi
cantly during the period from
April 16 until the current show
er system moved into Pennsyl
\ama Sunday
Dr Maurice K Goddard,
Secretary of Environmental Re
sources, said that while rainfall
amounts varied acioss the state,
there was sufficient rainfall
eveiywhere to reduce the ex
treme forest fire danger that
had prevailed

that the normal spring forest
fue season will continue for sev
eial moie weeks and that with
the return of fair weather, the
fire danger will again increase
