Weed Society Official Warns
Of Need to Retain Chemicals

“Even essential food sub
stances. such as vitamin A, and
common medicines, such as
aspmn, can cause birth abnor
malities when fed at the high
levels in some standaid tests,”

evaluation methods be adopted
for chemicals used in food pro
duction ”
Khngman pointed out that
most herbicide chemicals are
not toxic to animals and man,
are lelatively short-lived in soils
and plants, aie not magmfied in
food chains and do not accumu
late in the environment “But,”
he said, “a mismfoimed public
could ‘kill the goose that lays
the golden egg’ through irration
al restriction of agricultural
technology which permits one
iaimer to taise enough food to
support 46 othei people in the
US”
