Pollution Discussed ut County Meeting
Water pollution and land

the Lancaster County Soil and
Water Conservation District’s
meeting Wednesday at the Farm
and Horae Center.
The District members agreed
to send letters to violators of
the new State Clean Streams
•Law stressing the need for con
servation to alleviate specific
problems which local officials
spot.

citizens were at the meeting to
present facts on the pollution of
the Conestoga Creek, including
growing silt and odor problems
° The citizens asked for help in
cleaning up the problems.
Dell Hartman, a local boat
companv owner, said the depth
in the Conestoga in recent jears
has been reduced to about one
foot, compared to three to four
feet in the past.
It was reported that, following
a meeting Monday involving
State Department of Transpor
tation officials and Orval Bass,
Lancaster County soil conserva
tionist steps will be taken by the
state to alleviate flooding prob
lems on Cocalico Creek in con
nection with construction of the
new route 222
