Dr. Russell G. Rothgeb (left), longtime corn and small
grain breeder at the University of Maryland, holds personal
plaque naming him the first Distinguished Maryland Agro
nomist. Large permanent plaque with space for future
award winners is held by Stanley P. Stabler of Brookeville,
Md. (right), a Montgomery county farmer and longtime
supervisor of the university agronomy farm where many of
Dr. Rothgeb’s experiments were conducted. Presentation
was made recently at the sixty-fourth annual meeting of the
Maryland Crop Improvement Association in Baltimore.
