    USDA Issues Pesticides Statement
A statement on the status of
DDT, 2,4, 5-T, aldrin, and diel
drin for use on farms in 1971
was issued by the U S. Depart
ment of Agriculture recently to
help clarify for farmers those
actions taken by the Environ
mental Protection Agency on

pesticides should be applied
sparingly, at the minimum effec
tive level.
Farmers should particularly
guard against pesticide drift
during use to avoid environmen
tal contamination.
The brush control chemical,
2,4, 5,-T, must be used in a way
that no residue will be passed on
in crops or meat animals.
Milk cows should not be grazed
on treated areas for several
weeks following treatment.
Meat animals should not be
grazed on freshly treated areas
for a few days prior to slaugh
ter.
