Weekly Review
Thursday, April 1
Compared to last weeks close
closing prices of slaughter
steers and heifers mostly 50
cents lower. Cows 1 00-1 25 low
er. Bulls fully steady Feeder
cattle and calves moderately ac
tive, fully steady.
Four day receipts 18,000 as
compared 17,700 previous week
and 22,400 a year ago Slaughter
steers approximately 40 per
cent, heifers 32 per cent, cows
10 per cent, feeders 15 per cent
Mud somewhat less prevalent
than previous week, but general
finish not attractive with a pre
dominance of Good to Average-
Choice.
Despite moderate marketings,
prices on slaughter steers and
heifers forced downward under
influence of sharply declining
carcass trade. Early demand re
latively narrow for beef which
would reach destination during
Holy Weekend many packers
reduced slaughter quotas ac
cordingly.
All buying interests cautious
and selective as they sought to
maintain a reasonable ratio be
tween live prices and carcass
realizations.
