Ruth’s parents are Mr and
Mrs Daniel E Trimble of Chest
nut Level, Drumore Township
She was born when they lived
along route 272 near Drumore
Center. Later, Mr Trimble

low Street and at Chestnut Level
Ruth helped with milking and
ibarn work, also driving the
tractors in the fields as soon as
she was old enough She still
helps with milking and the barn
work morning and evening and
works in the fields
Her mother was a seamstress,
too; she made all of Ruth’s
clothes when she was a child
Ruth attended Hope School,
Kirkwood, for her first grade,
Lampeter for second and third
grades, then completed elemen
tary school at Willow Street
She graduated at West Lampeter
High School, where she majored
in home economics. She attend
ed Lancaster School of the Bible
two evenings a week for four
years.
Akers have four childien
Gary, 14, is in ninth giade at
Solanco High School where he is
taking an industrial arts course
He plays the trombone in the
High School band He enjoys
drawing and carpenter work, also
cooking and baking He is his
dad’s right-hand man on the
fai m, since he is old enough now
to work in the fields and he
helps with evening milking and
other jobs. . , „
Gaiy has a 4-H cow and heifer,
has been in the Lancaster County
Holstein 4-H Club four years and
last year had one of the high re
cord books in the county Ken
neth Ratt is his 4-H leader.
Gary is in the dairy club at

tins isn’t her favorite job as a
homemaker Here are a couple
of her favorite recipes.
SHOO FLY CAKE
Crumb together;; ,
4 cups flour
1 box brown sugar
1 cup shortening ...
Reserve 1 cup crumbs. Pour
the following mixture over re
maining crumbs:
2 teaspoons soda
1 cup molasses
2 cups boiling water
Sprinkle reserved cup of
crumbs on top. Bake at 350 de»
grees for 45 to 50 minutes in a
9 ’ x 13” x 2” pan.
HAM LOAF
1 lb. fresh pork, ground
1 lb. cured ham, ground
1 cup bread crumbs
1 egg
1 teaspoon salt
V<t teaspoon pepper
3 /i to 1 cup milk
Mix all the ingredients Shape
in a loaf and place in pan. Bake
at 350 degrees for IVz to 2
