Farm and Home Foundation Meeting
Fund raising, the 1971 bud
get, upcoming activities and
building maintenance and im
provement were among subjects
discussed by the Lancaster
County Farm and Home Foun
dation board at its meeting this
week
A spring auction was an
nounced for Root’s Auction
Thursday, February 25 The
auction will include farm ma
chinery and equipment and
numerous items which farmers
or businessmen may wish to
sell A sales fee will be charg
ed Further details will be an
nounced later
The board also made pre
liminary plans for its annual
meeting and banquet at the
Farm and Home Centei Janu
ary 28 A charge of $3 50 for a
family style dinner was approv
ed
Study by the building com
mittee of the feasibility and
cost of an additional 50 car park
ing lot was approved. Several
members reported tnat the en
tire parking space now available
is frequently filled to over
capacity during some of the
larger meetings /
It was reported that drainage
tile probably will be necessary
within the next several months
to divert water away from the
center building. The tile was
recommended by the architect
to avoid possible future prob
lems with the building founda
tion. The sinkholes encountered
in the construction could be ag
gravated by the water, it was 1
indicated.

The fund raising committee
reported that it was decided at
a recent meeting to erect a
temporary plaque listing the
Faim and Home Centei donors
in the hallway of the audi
torium
In addition, the Board voted
to have a memonum plaque for
donations made to the Farm
and Home Center in memory of
a deceased person These dona
tions will be in the form of a
specific project, such as the re
cent flag pole duve in memoiy
of Victor Plastow, as specified
by the foundation
It was announced that the
Farm and Home Center recent
ly received recognition from
the Men’s Gaiden Club of Lan
caster “for creating and main
taining a place of beauty m the
community ”
It was reported that $1,157
has been received to date from
the slave auction, a fund raising
project earlier this year, with
some additional proceeds ex
pected.
The treasurer’s report showed
the outstanding debt on the

been reduced to $113,000 as of
November 1 It was indicated
that some further reduction can
be made soon During the past
year the debt has been reduced
by $27,000
The 1971 budget of $46,000
includes provision for an addi
tional $B,OOO debt reduction
from operating income Foun
dation members noted that
building maintenance will pro
bably rise as the Farm and
Home Center gets older, so that
the building income cannot be
relied on alone to pay off the
debt
Howard Campbell, Farm and
Home Center manager, said use
of the Center has been excel
lent and many dates are booked
ahead for several months.
