Department of Ag riculture recently announced a revision of the U S grade stan dards for potatoes that should help improve the quality of po tatoes marketed for retail sale. USDA’s Consumer and Mar keting Service said that the main changes in the revised standards are that they reduce the percentage of defects allow ed and tighten requirements for cleanness in potatoes marketed under the U. S. grade standards. C&MS officials said the revi sion is being adopted after careful study of more than 650 letters of comment received. Of the letters received, about 45 percent were from consumers and 55 percent from potato growers and shippers and or ganizations representing grow ers and shippers. The change in minimum size of potatoes for U S.
