Mortality Decline Ups
Egg Supply, UEP Soys
The statistical department of
United Egg Producers has just
completed an analysis which
provides evidence of a change
in the egg supply problem.
Gene Masters, Director of Sta
tistical Information for the na
tionwide cooperative, has evi
dence that the aveiage fowl
mortality has been reduced dur
ing the past year. The reduced
mortality late is adding to the
Add to tins the piesent and

feed costs and the outlook rs
gloomy, Masters sard.
The UEP statistical depart
ment sees a close con elation
between the increased use of
the vaccine staiting last spnng
and the piesent reduced morta
lity level.
Masters said the obvious solu
tion to the present flock size
mcr ease is to continue to follow
the “Action Now” program It
is pointed out that the 23 per
cent reduction in chicks placed
in August will help reduce the
flock size in early 1971.
Another point nr the ‘Action
Now” program is to hold place
ments to 1969 levels for the rest
of the year. Increased place
ments during the lest of the
year combined with reported m
creases which have occuied
since August could offset the
August hatch reduction, he said
Another point in the “Action
Now” program which is vital to
reducing the piesent build-up
in egg flock size is to inciease
the rate of slaughter.
