The Lancaster County 4-H
Livestock judging team was an
easy winner over four othei
teams Saturday at the Eastern
U S Livestock Judging Contest
at the Virginia State Fair in
Richmond
Under the dnection of Max
Smith, Lancaster County agri
cultural agent the team con
sists of Gary Dean. Strasburg
RDI, Burnell Buchen, Manheim
RD3, Clark Stauffer, Ephrata
RDI, and Ed Donough, Manheim
RDI
The thiee-member team and
alternate placed first, fifth, sixth
and seventh in individual scoring.
The three-man team score of
1,474 points out of a possible
1,650 was well ahead of state
teams fiom Virginia, Maryland,
North Carolina and South Caro
lina
Dean was the contest high
scorer with 505 points out of a
possible 550 He was first in
sheep and hog judging
Buchen scored 486 points;
Stauffer scored 483 and placed
third in beef judging and
Donough scored 481 points
The local bojs brought back
trophies for overall scoring,
high team, and firsts in hog and
sheep judging
Next competition for the
team will be Nov 12 at the
Pennsylvania Livestock Exposi
tion in Hainsburg, followed two
days later with judging at the
Eastern National Livestock
Show Timonium, Md
The judging season will end
Nov 27 when the foui boys go
to Chicago and the International
Fat Stock Show for competition
with 4-H teams fiom acioss the

Krantz has been comptroller
of the company for many years.
A graduate of Franklin and
Marshall College, he started

accountant, progressing through
