Live Stock Body Moves
To Increose Members
In a move to assure continued
sliong investor representation
on its ruling body, the National
Live Stock and Meat Board has
amended its constitution rela
tive to Board of Directors mem
bership to allow greater icpre
sentation from states.
Any state would qualify for an
elected Directorate membeiship
seat in which annual livestock
feedei -pi oducer-packer invest
ments in the national program
amount to either $lOO,OOO (a seat
for each $100,000); or as much
as 50 pel cent of the state’s
total investment potential A
minimum of $25,000 was deter
mined by Directors of the Board
to be appropriate for the lowest
qualifying level
The potential income is deter
mined from a formula of annual
livestock maiketmgs and slaugh
tei in each state, combined with
a minimum investment rate in
the Board of 3-cents pei head on
cattle and 1-cent on hogs and
sheep.
At present, lowa has two State
Director seats Illinois, Minne
sota, Missouri and Nebraska
each has one It now appears
that Nebraska may gain one ad
ditional seat and a new post may
be opened to Montana, if present
income projections aie maintain
ed through April
