New Danish Horsebean
Competes With Soybean
Denmark has been a major
importer of US. soybeans for
years It imported 384,550 met
ric tons of soybeans, 77,819
metric tons of soybean cake and
meal during 1968
Though horsebeans have been
known m Denmark for cen
turies, it is only in the past four
years that Danish agricultural
leaders have been making a de
termined effort to grow them
profitably. Previous efforts to
grow them failed because of
disease.
But, new strains show higher
yields and better disease resis
tance And, production of horse
beans has moved up from 1,000
hectares in 1967 to 20,000 m
1969.
