The fact that so many new
State facilities for outdoor re
creation will be opened to public
use this season is the lesult of
the far-sighted policy of the peo
ple of Pennsylvania in approving
both Pioject 70 under which the
land was pm chased and Project
500 undei which it is now being
developed
(Pioject 70 is a $7O million
bond issue for the purchase of
lands foi lecieational purposes
appioved by the voteis in 1963,
and Project 500, a S5OO million
bond issue for land leelamation
and development appioved only

The fact that Moraine State
Park will be foimally opened to
the public sometime aiound Me
monal Day is, moreover, strong
evidence of this Administration's
determination to both reclaim
and restore lands previously ruin
ed by past coal mining practices
One of the largest in the State
Park system, Moraine itself is
the result of cooperative efforts
on the part of the Departments
of Mines and Mineial Industries
and Foiests and Waters to elimi
nate and conti ol acid mine drain
age and othei harmful effects of
both strip and deep mining of
the land on which it is located
In developing Moraine, semes
of mine lefuse piles had to be
