course on trees for the homo
grounds, your soil, winter hardi
ness zone, type of shade desired
(dense, moderate or filtered),
planting space, and money to
spend are all items you’ll con
sider when selecting trees.
All things considered, three
species aie often used: hard
maple, sweetgum and honey
locust. All are native North
American liees and deciduous,
that is, lose their leaves in
autumn
Hard Maples are erect, single
stemmed tiees with rounded
tops Their foliage is dense,
leaves are broad and lobed, and
turn yellow to orange and red
in autumn. Mature plants reach
90 feet height, magnificent
shade trees.
