Don Bath, Extension Dairy Nu trition, University of California, will discuss Considerations on Feeding Large Herds. Louis Lon go, Connecticut dairyman will be on the program both days, first with a discussion on Puce by Bargaining Power and the next morning on The Business Side of Dairying. Mr Longo has promised us the complete story of their cooperative milk market ing plan It has woiked well for them and our Pennsylvania danymen will be particularly in terested in bis talk. The dairyman panel will be four young dairymen. Bill Moore Chester County, Chuck Dodd, Warren County, Duane Mattocks Bradford County and John Nieg ley, Cumberland County Both free stall and. conventional barns are represented along with con siderable mechanization, some hued labor, 50 to 250 cows, some judging of milk, corn silage, high moisture corn, naylage, some dry lot feeding year-round, some total silage-no hay feeding, and other interesting features. This is a conference that will wan ant attendance by many dauy men thioughout the state. Effective January 1, 1970, all test and vaccination leports for cattle must identify cattle by official eai tags In addition te official tag numbeis, it is recom mended that registiation names and numbers, ear tags, brands, chain tags and barn names be added It is important for those who have their animals identfied by official tags for the first time that the same identification for the previous test be included for each animal so that accurate ci oss leference files can be pre pared and the animal test clear ed No health certificates will be issued for cattle unless they have official tags in their ears. Positive and complete identifi cation of each animal in the. dairy herd is important for sev eral reasons (1) To prevent' confusion oit test day as the cows are being milked (2) Accurate lecoids can be kept only if identification of each animal is convenient and accui ate (3) Selection of held replace ments can only be made if sire and dam of each heifer calf is accui ately recoided (4) Accuracy of sire proofs is incieased when a sue receives (Continued on Page 16)
