Lancaster Farming, Saturday, August 16.1969 • Local Eggs (Continued riom Page 1) er in Lititz, 140 cases of extra high quality eggs have been or dered for the Voyage thiough a Philadelphia broker. “These eggs,” Gehman said, “must meet a 90 percent double A standard, five percent above the standard set by USDA for this quality egg. We are going to try to have them even at a higher level if possible,” he said. “This can only be done if the eggs are constantly refriger ated from the nest.” The eggs at the local plant are scheduled to be inspected on Monday and plans call for the shipment to leave via Sauder’s trucks on Tuesday for the dock. The crew has been asked to bring personal belongings for a three-month voyage, so it is easily seen why the standard for the local eggs is so high. Humble will issue each man on the crew, a specially designed parka, mittens and sunglasses. They will also receive the ex pedition patch, a tradition long established by past Polar ex plorers. The patch portrays the Humble “tiger” outfitted with earmuffs, now making him, as one crew member said, an “arc tic tiger”. Although tanker masters never -allow firearms on their ships, they will be taken on this un usual voyage.
