Eshleman
Congressman Edwin D. Eshle
man today announced the results
of his most icccnl questionnaire.
The results are based on a
total of approximately 1.650 re
ceived by the 16th District legis
lator. This fiigure represents ap
proximately a 20% return. Esh
leman said that the return on
this questionnaire was somewhat
lower than previous polls he has
distributed, but he feels that
the results arc still a significant
campling of opinion within Lan
caster, Lebanon, and Lower Dau
.phin counties
The question which showed
the highest maigin of approval
was m lesponse to the problem
of oiganized crime. Eshleman
said that he believes the 93%
respondent approval of Justice
Department attention to oiganiz
ed dime shows the public’s con
cern with the overall pioblem of
crime.
The question receiving the
closest margin was that asked
about President Nixon’s proposal
to change the militaiy draft sys
tem. On this question 48 % of
the people favored a draft lot
teiy with 45% saying they did
pot favor a change to such a sys
tem. Eshleman said that he be
liefs the close margin on this
question icsulted fiom the gen
eral dissatisfaction with the
diaft He feels that those say
ing “No” to this eliminated com
pletely with an immediate shift
to a volunteer military, and the
other which wishes to see the
draft remain as it is constituted
presently.
The complete results leleased
fcy Eshleman were as follows:
