She has five bediooms in her
lovely old stone faimhouse which
she puts to use in the summer by
enteitaming guests from New
Yoik, Philadelphia, New Jersey,
Illinois etc She gives them
bieakfast and dinner in the even
ing They have been entertain
ing city folks for 15 years Many
of them leturn time and again
and they tell their fuends who
also come
Their laige fanning opeiation
is an added tourist attraction
They take them on a toui of the
faiming operations of Noah Krei
der and Sons You might say
they have diversified farming but
on a large scale Richard, their
oldest son, lives on an adjoining
fdirn as does Noah Jr. and al
togethei they have 130 registered
and grade Holstein cows, plus
youngstoek, 300 Angus and Here
foid beef cattle, 20,000 cross
bieed bi oilers, 8000 to 10,000
Leghorn laying hens and then
main cash crop is 300 acres of
Katahdin and Cobblei potatoes
These potato fields are a sight to
behold this time of year The

potatoes are sold locally and to
potato chip factories They also

they raise the usual farm crops
needed for then cattle
In 1717 a gioup of Mennomte
settleis fiom Switzerland and
Geimany settled in this section
of Lancaster County and among
them was Christian Hershey, an
ancestoi of Mis Kieider His
grandson purchased this faim in
1739 fiom the sons of William
Penn and this farm has been in
the Hershey family ever since A
small cabin was built from local
timbeis and used as a dwelling
place until the present large
stone house wms erected The
stone barn and othei buildings
vveie constructed later TheKiei
deis lived on a farm at Bird in
Hand for 8 years then purchased
this fai m in 1936 They also were
hosts to ovei night touusts at
Bird in Hand back in the depres
sion days
Mr Ki eider finds time to be a
Director of Philhaven Hospital
in Lebanon County and has been
serving as a Directoi of the Farm
and Home Center in Lancaster.
Richard is married and has four
childien, the oldest now being in
college His wife, Pauline, is an
artist One of her specialties is
her Madonnas Noah Jr has
three children Mrs Kreider Sr
finds herself taxiing these grand
childien to band lehearsals, 4-H
meetings etc She enjoys their
diopping in and no doubt they
have many excuses to get into
Grandma’s kitchen to sample
some of her delicious pies, cook
ies and what have you. Noah

FIREPLACE, Mrs. Kreider holds a jar of
peaches canned in 1867 by Catharine Buck
waiter, Mrs. Kreider’s grandmother, when
she was 16 years old, before she was
married. The peaches are very dark but
still firm. The picture above the mantel

Rosalee is marued to Leon Sch
nupp and they have four
daughters, the oldest being 10
years They live on a dairy and
poultry farm between Sporting
Hill and Mount Joy She is an
expert seamstress and makes the
girls dresses Mary Jane is mar
ried to Aaron Hoober and lives
at Leola. She teaches at Blue
Ball Elemental y School and he
is a teller at the New Holland
bank
Mrs Kreider is a member of
Farm Women Society #1 at
Lititz which has 36 members
This is the oldest Society in Lan
caster County and celebrated its
fiftieth anniversary a couple
years ago They are active m
community service such as mak
