Lawn Mowing
Lawn mowing is in full swing
at this time of the year and many
areas rquire two clippings per
week. This is a sign of good turf
with sufficient fertility. The
question of removal of the clipp
ings is often discussed at this
period of the year. With the
lush growth and frequent mow
ings needed, we continue to feel
that it is advisable to icmove the
clippings during the spring and
other periods of heavy growth:
the buildup of heavy thatch can
do some harm. Also, at this time
of the year I’d like to remind
lawn keepers of the need of us
ing sharp blades on mowers; we
often notice that a lawn will turn
biown for a few days after clipp
ing; in many cases this is due to
the fact that the blades on the
mower were dull and the grass
was beaten off rather than cut,
sharp cutting blades aie needed
for good lawns.
