president, Miss Workman, with
a lovely ceramic bowl which was
made by Mrs Raymond Hess,
Landisville, who teaches cer
amics The fine craftmanship
exemplified in this iridescent,
blue grape embossed, gold trim
med bowl attests to the esteem

Miss Elizabeth was born and
raised on a farm, just outside
the borough of East Petersburg,
which was owned by her father
and her grandfather and now
owned by her brother Frank
and where he still lives She
and her sister Matilda own the
house in East Petersburg which

have a family of her own she
has mothered countless children
duiing school hours because she
taught school for 42 years, re
tiring m 1964. Yes, to meet her
is to feel like one of her own.
In these days of hurry and
scurry and push and shove it is
indeed a rare treat to meet and
associate with someone with
such a gracious manner as this
lady possesses
She first taught eight grades
in a one-room school-house in
Rapho township, then taught
third grade in Manheim borough
and lastly taught first grade in
Lititz She still does substitute
teaching in Warwick Union.
She was educated in East Peters
burg School in East Hempfield
township and Millersville Nor
mal School (now Millersville
Stale College). She took sum
mer courses at Pennsylvania
State College (now Pennsylvania
State University) and the Uni
versity of Pennsylvania She is
a member of Lancaster County
Retired Teachers Association
v hich meets four times a year
She comes from a family of
teachers Her father, four broth
ers, her sister and she all at
tended Millersville Normal
School Her brother Charles
was principal of Maytown and
Fulton township high schools
before becoming a lawyer Her
brother Walter taught in Penn
township then became a cattle
dealer, her brother John taught
in Elizabeth township and Frank
