SECOND SECTION
SNOWMOBILES GALORE AT
FARM SHOW
Harrisburg This was the
year of the snowmobile at the
Pennsylvania Farm Show.
Take a gander in any direc
tion at the 53id Faim Show ex
hibit area where manufacturers
and distributors display their
pioducts and you’ll see the übi
quitous snowmobile
It’s an expensive “toy ” Prices
lange fiom $BOO to $2,000 Some
come equipped with little trail
ers the family can i ide in while
Dad does the driving
One distributor labeled the
snowmobile the “farmer’s toy”
because the machine is used iht
winter when a farmer can en
joy it from afternoon milking
until slumber time
“The snowmobile doesn’t in
terfere with plowing, planting,
cultivating or harvesting,” the
distributor said
Practical uses for the snow
mobile, as far as farm life goes,
include rounding up the cattle,
inspecting fences and looking
over acreage farmers seldom in
spect during winter months.
Snowmobile fun isn’t restrict
ed to farmers City folks can
have a peck of fun by whooping
it up on the machines at parks
and golf courses.

Protect Trees
If we get snow cover for any
length of time this winter, I
hope that owners of small fruit
trees and ornamental shrubs
will have the plants protected
fiom rabbits and field mice}
these rodents like to gnaw on
the baik of the tree and can do
considerable damage There are
sveral ways the trees can be
piotected against rodent injury.
One way is to use aluminum foil
or fine wire mesh and wrap
aiound the trunk of the tree
fiom the ground up at least 24
inches, also tree wrapping pa
per may be used to the same
height This distance is needed
in case of deep snow for any
Ingth. of time.
