In a special release to food editors of the nation’s 512 lead ing newspapers, Patricia Myles, PENB director of home econom ics, pointed out that even at 83 cents a dozen eggs are a better buy than hamburger. That is be cause the price per pound of this high quality protein food, even at a record high for eggs, is only 49 cents a pound By getting Mrs Housewife to think of eggs in terms of price per pound instead of price per dozen, PENB is making it easi er for her to compare the price of eggs with the price of other protein foods, most of which are sold by the pound That way she is less likely to start buying few er eggs just because prices are higher than they used to be And if egg consumption remains at a uniform level with produc tion, prices will no longer fluc tuate to the degree they did in the past Ten years ago consumers paid twice as much for eggs during the season of low productivity as they did during the season of high productivity. Miss Myles noted m the release Since there is now less variation in season al production, there is less vari ation in price In the not too dis tant future there will be uni form production and prices year around, PENB predicts How will this be achieved’ By air conditioning hen houses, Miss Myles explained In hot weather older hens lay fewer and smaller eggs When they’re kept cool year around, they’ll have no reason' to slow down ' GREEN PASTURES Steer Concentrates FEED LESS—SAVE DOLLARS *^SroCK continue to help feeders get faster gains and better feed efficiency!
