    NEIGHBORS HELP. A group of neigh
bors and friends helped harvest tobacco
for Elvin G. Snavely, Manheim R 4, this
week, after Snavely and his 13-year-old
son Doug, w ere burned in a freak accident
last Satuiuay morning. The misfortune oc
curred when Snavely attempted to light a
brush fire A small portion oi gasoline was
applied but unknown to the victims the
wet leaves under the wood pile were de
composing and also producing fumes. The
tw o gases united and though the men were
standing ten feet away when they threw
the match into the pile it exploded with

bethtown, was appointed Sep
tember 9 to the Cooperative Ex
tension Service staff of The
Pennsylvania State University as
assistant county agricultural
agent and assigned to Columbia
County
Thomas H Patton, Extension
Service director, who announced
the appointment, said Gipe will
fill thVvacancy on the Columbia
County Extension staff created
by the resignation of John G
McAllister, associate county
agent
Gipe prepared for college at
Lower Dauphin High School and
received his bachelor of science
degree from Penn State in 1966,
majoring in animal science.
In college he was a member of
the livestock and meats judging
teams, Block and Bridle Club,
and participated in the student
Little International Livestock
Exposition
Gipe was recently released
