Four Receive Ag Awards At Solanco Four Solanco High School sen iors were recipients of Agricul tural awards at a recent annual Senior Breakfast. Mr. Ralph Layman made the following awards: DeKalb Award to Don ald Young, son of >Mr. and Mrs. Earl Young, Peach Bottom R 2; American Agriculturist Award to Lee Kinsey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kinsey, Quarryville R 3; and the Chapter Star Farm er to John 'McSparran, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert McSparran of Peach Bottom Rl, Don Young, an excellent FFA member, is a hard worker in FFA activities and a strong sup porter of FFA contests at Penn State. Although working at this time at Grumelli’s Farm Service Center, Don has had a corn and steer program throughout his years in Vo-Ag. Lee Kinsey, another Red Rose Degree holder, has had a pro gram of crops, steer and dairy up until this year when he had the opportunity to gain experi ence working at Cope and Wea ver’s, another Farm Power and Machinery dealer in the area. Lee too, has»shown to be a lead er while holding the Reporter's office in the Chapter. John McSparran, a delegate this year to the County FFA Chapter and holder of the Red Rose Degree is another crop and dairy farmer. He has had the largest and most varied of all the boys in any crop program in the chapter. He has been a lead er and organizer during the past two years with the FFA, tak ing charge of 2 annual FFA sponsored dances and helping strongly in organizing the Par ent Son Banquet. Another award presented at the Senior Breakfast was the Farm Women Society #2O Award. This award is given an nually to the senior boy in Ag riculture for outstanding leader ship and scholarship. A 1 has done a great deal in ad vancing the Solanco Chapter FFA with his being Its Vice- President this past year. A dairyman, with crops and swine besides, he has proven to be one of our future farmers in that he plans to stay on the farm after graduation. Two other awards to seniors, presented earlier at the Parent and Son Banquet in early March, were the Henry A. Wenger Award and the Banker’s Award. The Henry A. Wenger Award is presented annually by Mr. Hen ry A. Wenger to the boy who has advanced on his own merit based on the opportunities he has had. This year, Ray Peters, son of Mr. and Mis. Aldus Pe ters, Quarryville R 3, received the loving cup. Ray has been a steer and corn boy since 9th grade and this year has been able to become a parts man with the Wenger Implement Co. Ray with limited opportunities- at home, has carried his program well and has participated in FFA activities and committee work. . .Lane.
