HISTORY OF SOAPS
One view of history tells us
that the use of soap went hand
in hand with the greatest civili
zations of the past When Egyp
tian kings built palaces and
pyramids, when the Greek cul
ture flowered, and when Italian
art and music flourished, bath
ing was an important part of
everyday life. Conversely, low
points in history, like the Dark
(and dirty) Ages, were known
for the absence of cleanliness.
Americans today use an aver
age of 27 pounds of soap per
person a year! Newer develop
ments in soap, such as new de
odorant types, unheard of even
in our “modern” colonial times,
have brought deodorant protec
tion and antibacterial action to
the cleanliness routine.

MORE MEAT THAN CARS
How big is the meat business?
It’s so big that the 33 billion
pounds of meat produced annu
ally in this country exceed the
tonnage of all new autos pro
duced in this country in any
single year.
