Beware Of
Prussic Acid,
Plastow Says
If you have any sudan sorg
hum hybrid, a word of caution
Is necessary at this time of
year according to Victor Plas
tow, Associate County Agent.
Because, if it is frost ?d it be
comes very poisonous due lo
the high concentration of prus
sic acid within the stalk.
“The safest place to put this
forage after a killing frost
would be in the silo.” Plastow
said. "After a few weeks fer
mentation, this roughage will be
perfectly safe lo feed.”
“If by unfortunate experience
an animal should get a few
mouthfuls and become critically
affected from this poisonous
acid, call the veterinarian im
mediately and he may be able to
save the animal, if he arrives
promptly,” he said.
Plastow also cautioned all
dairymen concerning the pre
sence of silo gas within the silo.
“If for any reason you may
think there is a possibility of
gas, never go into the silo until
you may be able to circulate or
air out the silo before entering,”
the associate agent said.

WE'RE HARD-NOSED ABOUT FERTILIZER
Long ago. in 1904, we decided to manufacture only the best
possible fertilizer. We discovered that most of our custo
mers couldn’t afford to take chances with “Bargain-price”
fertilizer. They want Premium fertilizer that takes high
production punishment. The best advertisement we, of
FARMERS’ FERTILIZER WORKS have, is the many satis
fied customers.
True, FARMERS’ FERTILIZERS may cost a little
more to buy, but our many customers find that whatever
extra they pay is well worth the higher yields they produce
season after season. Remember
FARMERS' FERTILIZER “As good as the best, and bet
ter than the rest.” Call us now, for prompt service and

The Exposition is sponsored
by the Pennsylvania Depart
ment of Agriculture, its Farm
Show Commission, and the
Pennsylvania Livestock and Al

State Secretary of Agricul
ture Leland H, Bull said he is
very pleased by the number of
entries and that it is indicative
of the widespread recognition
of the exposition. He said that
the exposition, in its first ten
years, played an important part
in the progress of the livestock
industry and in improving the
quality of all species of meat
producing animals. In its see
ond decade, he said, the ex
position will begin to reflect a
growing emphasis on the ulti
mate goal of the livestock in
dustry, to satisfy the demands
of the modern consumer by
furnishing the most desirable
meat.
