State Grange Attendance May Reach 1,800 Harrisburg Founding of the Grange 100 years ago will be observed in a tribute to William Saunders, its first na tional master, Monday noon, Oct. 23, in Gettysburg at the opening of the 95th annual ses sion (October 23-26) of the Pennsylvania State Grange, John W. Scott, master, said to day. A life-size figure of Saunders will be unveiled in the National Civil War Wax Museum not far from the Gettysburg National Cemetery for which he drew the original plans under commis sion of President Lincoln. At the dedication of the cemetery by the President 104 years ago, on the occasion of his immortal Gettysburg Address, Saunders shared the platfoim with him, sitting two seats away in the front row Saundeis, native of Scotland and world-renowned authority on landscape architecture, was superintendent of the propagat ing gardens of the then new U S. Department ot Agriculture. His plans for the Gettysburg burial grounds became a pattern for other national cemeteries that were established later. Scott will speak at the unveil ing and dedication of the Saund ers statue done m wax. The Rev. James Gold, Middleburg, state Grange chaplain, will give the invocation. G Wallis Caulk, Sr., Woodside, Del., state master for that state, will join in th«> cere mony as representative of the National Grange to the conven tion.
